To reproduce: just activate the menu "Edit" in gnome-terminal, and if you type ANYTHING while the "paste" menu is highlighted, you get a new keyboard shortcut for paste.!!! (You can also set/reset keyboard shortcuts through the "normal" short-cut editor, "Edit"->"Keyboard shortcuts.". So, whenever i type "p" I paste the contents of the clipboard to terminal! It may be changed, for instance, to the letter "p".
In terminal I need to use the Shift modifier (since C and V serve other purposes in that context). Start selecting text with Space and end selecting text with Space. Shift + Insert should now paste the clipboard. Click on the old 'Ctrl+Shift+V' shortcut for Paste until it changes to New accelerator, then press Shift + Insert.
